I work for one of the world's largest online advertising companies. I read all news articles in Lynx in a terminal window because it doesn't display adverts.

Big woop. We online marketers constantly use ad blockers. We're only on this because we need to eat food.

there are better ways to block ads. A good browser (not Chrome) with an adblocker and with ad-blocked DNS will give a much better experience - and block ads outside the browser too

@Fesshole 🧻 PiHole.

Then put it on Tailscale as a DNS server and set your phone to use it.

Bang! Ads blocked everywhere always.

@goatsarah except youtube ads

I spent an afternoon configuring a pihole just to learn it does nothing for youtube ads

@goatsarah @jackeric ublock origin seems to do a good job w youtube ads. You need to use YT via a browser tho. Same w fb.

@jackeric @goatsarah A browser based ad blocker along with it works as as the perfect complement to it. No white spaces on web pages and ads from the same domains get blocked. And your DNS based adblocker blocks the rest of the ads.

@goatsarah How will you know what to purchase if you don't see any Ads?!

/Sarcasm

That's a nice trick. I'll have to try it out. Thanks!

Dillo? Has the advantage of displaying images - and no JavaScript.

What is that saying about ad agencies. They do not even believe in their own products....

I have used Lynx terminal in the past too. How is it for blocking trackers and such. I know you don't physically see ads, but is it still blocking them?
I think I'll give it a try again.
