I don’t know how they find me, but usually they come to hijack a popular post to spread HOA nonsense. It usually goes like this:
“The Fediverse doesn’t need to grow and should remain small”
“TikTokers don’t belong on the Fediverse and aren’t a cultural fit”
“This software should be defederated, and everyone who talks about it in a positive manner should be blocked”
Quite often you get lots of vitriol with people saying, “You don’t care about <insert issue> if you don’t do what I say.”
I’ve now come to the conclusion that anyone sending HOA messages in a repetitive manner is not seeking dialogue but is simply using my posts to hijack them for their own HOA silliness.
@goatsarah Yeah, you know what’s odd about them? They keep talking about defederating everyone else, but they never do.
But then again, that shouldn’t surprise me because it’s the *threat* of defederation that makes them feel powerful.
One further point on this: they often weaponize their status as marginalized people to oppress other marginalized people.
For example, a few days ago, one of them told me they’re “just trying to protect their community.”
And I was like, “Fine, do what’s best for your community. But in the meantime, do you plan to host vulnerable people on your server who are leaving Big Social?”
Point blank, she told me, “No!”
That, right there, tells me she’s only interested in *her* people, the ones who’ve already arrived, and not the folks who are currently fleeing.
And considering Elon’s Nazi salute, I think growing the Fedi
