I'm Sarah. I'm a Brit who fled to Portugal on account of Brexit, increasing intolerance and the British weather. I like climbing (although I can't do much any more for health reasons) and sailing. This is a Friendica account. Friendica is kinda like Facebook as Mastodon is kinda like Twitter, except they can talk to each other.

Raspberry Pi swapfile config be like, “maximum upper limit is 2048 megabytes. Do not change this!”

And I am like, “yeah, whatever xxxxa8192^[:wq”

You can tell I’m fucking ancient because I know how to type “ESC” on a keyboard without an escape key.

File it under “arcane knowledge” along with not only knowing that control-a control-k clears any text dialogue in Mac OS, but also knowing WHY it does.

had a lovely conversation on the unix historical society list about terminal influences, like ADM-3a leading to vi’s hjkl movement. You all are my people.

Woah 🤯 . While I know why that works, it had never occurred to me to try it.

Still one of my habits from using DEC terminaks. I think I do sometimes use the actual ESC key but ^[ is wired into my fingers too

I knew that, but had forgotten until your string reminded me. I don't think I've ever had to use it though, the VT220s I used had keyboard with Esc key.
