I'm Sarah. I'm a Brit who fled to Portugal on account of Brexit, increasing intolerance and the British weather. I like climbing (although I can't do much any more for health reasons) and sailing. This is a Friendica account. Friendica is kinda like Facebook as Mastodon is kinda like Twitter, except they can talk to each other.

@Sion [main] @Sarah Brown afaik it also has to cope with state-of-the-art (back then) backends written in cobol in the 1980s with the tech limitations of the time, and nobody knows how to change anymore.

rewriting in java is in progress every time some regulatory entity orders them to bring something up to the 21th century 😁

I don't know if this makes it better or worse, but Mexican banks usually do the same 😓

fiche.

I was is an Expat in Setúbal in the early 80s. At the time you could only take about $100 out of the country.

I took a suitcase full of 1,000 Escudos bills to Heathrow for exchange to dollars on the trip back to America for Christmas vacation in 81.
