@Baroque Mongoose I could see how they would be a concern in the UK. Every time I go back there, the lamentable state of the mobile networks surprises me every time.

There was a period during which VoIP-only lines (FTTP) were provided with a battery backup. They dropped it as just not worthwhile, landlines are rarely the mechanism of last resort these days.
