Before recycling glass jars and bottles, I don't just wash them out - I also polish them until they glisten and shine. I like to imagine the lads down at the recycling plant examining my glass and saying "brilliant polishing, Matt, you fucking legend". They probably don't though.

@Fesshole 🧻 I’ve taken the tour. They definitely don’t. They’re probably smashed before another human sees them.

I watched a documentary about this. They get smashed in a big tumbler, ground into powder, remelted and extruded into fibreglass insulation. Humans don't even really see them until after the resulting product is dyed pink.

You’re also wasting water by washing it. There is 0 point in cleaning out the stuff before you recycle it.

If it’s tainted by food it can’t be recycled. If it’s just dirty, it will get washed anyway.
