made the mistake of checking the vagina museum notifications
>twitter: terf pileon
>bluesky: white users outraged at mentioning we wouldn't be posting as Black users had asked us not to
>instagram: general shitshow of not reading the post
>mastodon: quality shitposts about clitoris bones

I had to go and take a peek at Twitter (I know, it's bad for me but I couldn't help it).
New favourite TERF phrase: "biological vaginas".
in reply to Kerr Avon's Pet Rock

@NightlyBye I genuinely don't think they know what "biological" means and they just use it as an amplifier like "fucking"
in reply to Sin Vega

@NightlyBye "theoretical vulvologist" is probably my most honest self-summary now that I think about it
in reply to Sin Vega

@sinvega @NightlyBye
And radioactive or nuclear vaginas, as in chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear (CBRN) weapons...
in reply to Sin Vega

@sinvega @NightlyBye glad you didn’t mention physical because then we’d end up getting into theoretical and philosophical vaginas, and maybe metaphysical and spiritual ones too 🫨

It's funny, the more time I spend on Mastodon, the more unhinged other social media sites seem because things are just so relatively SANE here and I had not experienced that for a long time.
in reply to Zorin =^o.o^=

@zorinlynx yeah, like it's not perfect here, and I still have no idea how the computer explainers can seek out any post to reply about how you should be using linux but aside from that it's pretty chill
in reply to Another Angry Woman

Heh, as a Linux fan I apologize for my overzealous comrades.

Use what you like. 😀

incidentally the wave of outrage at criticising moderation on bluesky is the most engagement the vagina museum has ever got on the platform, the rest of the time it's been fucking crickets on every post
in reply to Another Angry Woman

Bluesky's discoverability is so fucking bad. I don't think anyone even sees like 90% of posts.
in reply to just adrienne

@adrienne honestly, it's probably massively deboosting vm content *anyway* - for comparison, first post from the mastodon account got over 2400 engagements; first on bluesky got 28; when it's all algorithms all the way down, there's definitely deboosting going on
in reply to Another Angry Woman

Honestly i don't think Bluesky is deboosting anything -- as far as I can tell that's not really a feature of their algorithms. The problem is that overly-detailed BOOSTING of certain posts/people has the result of leaving everyone else out.
in reply to just adrienne

@adrienne have you seen their content warnings system btw? Absolutely no capacity for users to add their own content screens, it's automatically added (inconsistently and often entirely inappropriately)
in reply to Another Angry Woman

gonna actually say the bluesky ones are more persistent and insufferable than the twitter terfs today, who are at least completely half-arsing it. the bluesky defenders are putting their whole pussy into the "yet you participate in a society" spiel

What was the context of the Bluesky one? Not on there, and some of the reports out are wiiiild
in reply to semibad

@andi
I also don't quite understand. You're not posting on Bluesky at all or just not certain posts? What makes a post inappropriate for that platform but ok on different ones?

You don't have to answer this.

in reply to CharLES ☭ H

@celesteh @andi The latest I heard is that they had no mechanism for blocking abusive terms in user handles with the inevitable and entirely predictable consequence that thousands of abusive handles were created and used to abuse people. They attempted a bodge-job 'fix' for this and ignored that the issue had occurred, with no apology issued (at least within several hours after the incident). In other words, it continues to be amateur hour over there.

@celesteh @andi I have no idea if this is the most recent fuck up that's led to the VM ceasing posting there but it's one that's happened in the past day or so.
in reply to Jonathan T

@celesteh @andi Boggles the mind that they had millions of dollars handed to them and they still didn't have half the basics of moderation right before opening it up to be used by the public.
in reply to Jonathan T

@JonnyT @celesteh @andi honestly though, the rubbish automated moderation *is* the product - bluesky is the demo, but the *product* is the really worse-than-useless moderation tools. They don't even have the ability to let users do blurs over content, an automated tool applies the filter (badly, inconsistently, and usually inappropriately!)

But yeah, the museum was asked not to in solidarity against the racism thing, but the content warnings was a real factor, too

in reply to Another Angry Woman

@JonnyT @celesteh @andi here's the deal on the content filtering. cunnilingus from a swan is fine, but from an octopus is obscene masto.ai/@vagina_museum/110672…

We've found an unwelcome feature on Bluesky: you can't add your own content filters, but it will randomly slap one on sometimes. Yesterday's post, which was as deeply unsexy as it was anatomically incorrect, is "sexually suggestive" according to Bluesky...

@boby_biq I know we get a bit navel gazey here but I have to appreciate a "fuck yeah mastodon" post that says something new, so thank you (as ever, really) 🙏
in reply to Another Angry Woman

It seems increasingly that my choice of social media is Twitter with its Mervyn Peake version of Two Minutes Hate aimed at the trans community, or Mastodon where I learn about things like clit bones and look at pretty pictures, and I'm only on Twitter for bus service updates, and I'm not signing up for another platform, so here I am.
in reply to Another Angry Woman

Thank you for this high quality UX research into the posting patterns across social medias! Someone: write a blog.

thank you for reminding me of "they removed her vagina bones", one of the all time great moments in post-2014 videogame chuddery
