Bsky seems to suck, definitely not going there.
in reply to Rachel Lawson

@Rachel Lawson "Yeah, Jesse Singal is sharing screenshots of people who have blocked him, by doing block evasion to do it, but he's posting them on Twitter, not here, so we're going to pretend that it isn't happening"
in reply to Rachel Lawson

@rachel
They've failed to ban a complete scrote who has attracted more complaints than anyone on the service, and who is bringing his entire network of scrotes with him to harass users.. As a company, they don't really seem to want to moderate, but expect individuals and groups to do that for them. Typical VC powered free speech tech behaviour.

@krims
Jesse Singal is being discussed, as the archetype.

in reply to Sarah Brown

@rochelimit @krims are they likely to enhance my life? If not, what’s the point in caring about them??
in reply to Rachel Lawson

@Rachel Lawson @Roche Limit @krims Because they want to hurt you, and are responsible for lots of the things that have likely already made your life harder than it needed to be, and knowing who wants you hurt or dead is kinda necessary, if unpleasant.

It’s a bit like a mouse not knowing what a cat is.

in reply to Roche Limit

@Roche Limit @Rachel Lawson @krims “views”

Yes. It’s definitely his views, and not that fact that he’s using block evasion to share screenshots of trans Bluesky users with Kiwi Farms.

Dear god, fucking journalists.

in reply to Sarah Brown

really really speechless at how bsky are speedrunning it, I honestly thought it would be at least a year or two from the "big migration" before they started being shit, but no they've managed it in a month or so
in reply to Sarah Brown

it’s the same bullshit as X. I heard already so many bad things. Brrrrr.
in reply to Sarah Brown

Yep. I also turned off my Fediverse-Bluesky bridge as soon as it became clear Jesse Singal would be tolerated. And deleted my other account I was following a few trans folk on

We know where this is leading, though it will be spun

@Natasha_Jay i feel like it’s inevitable for a vc-backed platform, by definition prioritizing growth over everything else, to throw us under the bus. Which is why I like fedi so much.
in reply to marlies

@Natasha_Jay @marlies what does vc backed mean? Thank you for this discussion. I was on Bluesky and saw this happening. It was alarming.
in reply to Sarah Brown

@marlies @Natasha_Jay thank you, Sarah! I was wondering if those who own the site are just hoping to populate it with content at any cost so that it can be sold on- or whatever. The vibe there is very different.
in reply to Allyson Shaw

@AllysonShaw @Natasha_Jay you’re spot on, that’s usually the venture capital tactic: get something to grow fast no matter what the cost (financial, ethical or otherwise) and then cash out by either selling it or an IPO (making it a public company traded at a stock exchange)
in reply to marlies

@marlies @Natasha_Jay I just wondered why no one on Bluesky is talking about this-there seems to be a single minded focus on replicating ‘the old Twitter’ rather than considering the future of that platform.
in reply to Allyson Shaw

@Allyson Shaw @Natasha Jay 🇪🇺 @marlies They basically have no business model beyond “create a pool of content which someone will pay for”.

And generating harassment drives engagement, so it’s not in their interest to clamp down too hard on it. Their ideal strategy is “slightly less harassment than Twitter”

in reply to Sarah Brown

@Natasha_Jay @marlies right- there’s obviously a lot of engagement just going on about this ‘dilemma’- I just peeked in there because I have friends who now only use that platform. It’s so messed up. Thanks for helping clarify this.

@grissallia
I had hopes and was playing around with it

The fact I post fairly freely here about life, selfies etc, means I don't consider it safe to bridge outwards to Bluesky

Also I'm hearing about kiwifarms bots from friends ...

Definitely halting the experiment

in reply to Natasha Jay 🇪🇺

@Natasha_Jay there was a vibe to Bluesky that was different to Masto. I feel like Masto leads to longer, more thoughtful posting, but BS had that rapid-fire quippy energy that Twitter used to do so well.
in reply to Allie

@grissallia
I've been a huge fan since I joined two years ago. The vibe here is very different and safe. I'd like to have interacted with a few people on BSky I know who won't come here but ... 🤷🏻‍♀️
in reply to Sarah Brown

the inability to even go private there is making me think I might actually have to delete my account if things get too bad
in reply to Sarah Brown

quite a turn of events.. remember that was ? the guy that ran twitter.. thing.. anyhew..

f cloud flare too who needs em really?
odd.. wikipedia cloudflare'

in reply to Sarah Brown

the more I hear about the shit show that's happening over there, the more I'm glad that I decided to stay away
in reply to Ainsley Lowbeer

@Ainsley Lowbeer You’re on Mastodon. Not sure how helpful this will be to you, given that, but it was under Settings->Social Networks->Bluesky Import/Export
in reply to RussianDeepStateSock

@RussianDeepStateSock once again we find out the hard way that if you aren’t paying for the service, then you are the product. This place is the only place where we’re safe from that, I think, because we are paying for it. It’s often running on our own goddam services.
in reply to Sarah Brown

"If you aren't paying for the service, you are the product"

This^^^! I've been shouting about this for a decade. If you get the "app" for free, you are paying them in some other way.

Efffff bluesky. : /
