There are white sauce, brown sauce, and orange sauce. The last one only just counts because it’s really named for the fruit not the colour. But ANYWAY can fedi think of any other sauces named for their colour?

more seriously, "red sauce" gets used for tomato sauces of various sorts.

also also en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_sa…

on searching for yellow sauce, I find that people refer to mustard as such, though that's definitely outside my dialect.

@pseudomonas I’d expect to hear that at a greasy spoon cafe. Three sauces on the table, red, yellow and brown.

@pseudomonas For no reason, in a vaguely OED desire to find a formalish citation: Greggs certainly have the option "Sauces: None / Red / Brown" on their paper bags.

Of course, eau de source is the only sauce named after its smell.

Salsa Verde and Mole Negro off the top of my head. Quite sure I've seen ketchup referred to as red sauce, too.

'scuse the thread drift, but I really miss Lancashire sauce. It's a vegan alternative to Worcestershire sauce, which is aka English Garum (fermented fish sauce). I must see if I can get some Lancashire sauce smuggled.

@sunflowerinrain You might try Henderson's relish (aka Hendo's), another vegan Worcestershire equivalent, but this time from Sheffield

@sesquipedality @karohemd this made me laugh, because as kids we used "pink flavour" to describe sweets which were pink in colour and vaguely fruity but you couldn't tell if they were supposed to be raspberry or strawberry or something else.
