Another successful Universal Basic Income study. There was no drop in productiveness "On average, study participants worked 40 hours a week and stayed in employment" β€œWe find no evidence that people love doing nothing,” instead "their lives were β€œmore valuable and meaningful” and felt a clear improvement in their mental health" since poverty is on purpose to keep us feeling stressed and beaten so we don't fight back #1984book

I think it’s great from the perspective of how much suffering can be eased. On a wide scale there is so much risk for abuses. Subsidizing a large portion of the population makes them reliant to the government, thus subject to any possible negative outcomes. With how thirsty the world seems to be for authoritarian rule I have little trust this dependence wouldn’t be absurd.

On city or county scopes though where power is well defined it could absolutely mitigate that.

I always doubts those studies. I couldn't quit my job for 1200€ even if I wanted to. Less workhours is not an option at most companies.

There's a bunch of fulfilling things to do on this planet, and we won't have troubles getting even rich people to do fulfilling stuff, but there is also cleaning-toilets-stuff. Any start of large scale basic income will once again be a benefit to the wealthy and colonize people from poor countries.

The Labour UK gov explicitly state that everyone has a "moral duty" to work, and that only the hardworking [aka "deserving poor"] merit government support [oh, and the super wealthy, of course].

Fat chance of UBI being supported here.

@Madeleine Morris It’s toxic and inhuman and I hate it 😞

Do people remember artists with an opus, who didn't necessarily have to care what others think? I know it's also a bit idealistic, but this can be a spectrum...

Anyone who believes these studies is going to be totally shocked when in an actual UBI environment, cost of living increases within a short time frame to moot the buying power of UBI completely. It’s welfare for landlords and other parasites, that will leave everyone as broke as they were before.

Heh… and maximum State Pension in the UK is 10K πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

It is almost as if income is irrelevant and buying power is what is important.

It's obviously veeery meaningful.

This is certainly a serious point of discussion. All kinds of jobs are fulfilling due to various aspects. Some are fun, healthy, super needed, difficult, creative, economically rewarding. Most jobs have pros and cons in various quotas. Obviously, when you can't make up the cons with existing pros, you should need to put in extra pros. Cleaning toilets should be a well paid job actually.
