@chrispackham
Yup, this happens at some point after someone on your instance has favorited, bookmarked or shared the post. There is also a user-agent component to the equation - i.e., it doesn't just automagically happen as soon as someone other than you does it, your user agent has to refresh the post.

A post and a link. Iirc, there's no work around for quote-tooting
in reply to CharLES ☭ H

@Charles ☭ H This is not a quote. It’s just an ordinary post but with the title field filled in (I usually leave it blank)
in reply to Sarah Brown

On Tusky it is very confusing but it does technically contain all the information
in reply to Sarah Brown

'That was the title.
This is the body text.
Does this show too...'
Odd colours...
in reply to Denis Buckley

@Denis Buckley Thanks. Didn’t include any colours so that’s happening somewhere else.

This is red, however.
And this is green.

Experiment. What do you see if you’re reading this from Mastodon or one of its clones?

@Alexandra Lanes That’s disappointing, @Mona app - the body text is completely missing!
in reply to Sarah Brown

I don’t see much difference from the Mastodon web. I guess the text format you used is not supported by Mastodon.
in reply to Sarah Brown

Result from, not a Mastodon clone, but #Misskey. Not sure which side is producing the Amazon-listing style Unicode black lenticular brackets.
in reply to Sarah Brown

The title and a link to the post with the rest of the message.
in reply to Sarah Brown

Thanks for your help everyone. This confirms to me that I should keep leaving the title blank. It really doesn’t federate well.
in reply to Sarah Brown

Seems to work correctly. The link is visible and works.

Firefox on Ubuntu desktop.

in reply to Sarah Brown

The title "What do you see if you’re reading this from Mastodon or one of its clones?" acts as a link, to the post it's in.

I suspect I'm not used to seeing posts with titles. Is that expected behaviour for them? If it is, I apologise for wasting your time.

in reply to DeterioratedStucco

@SftwareTheron I wouldn’t have asked what people saw if I thought them telling me would be wasting my time!

This does present a handy way for long form blog posts that preserve formatting though, essentially forcing a click through for software that doesn’t support rich content.

in reply to Sarah Brown

Via mastodon.social and 'toot tui'.
(In general, Friendica posts often look like arse through this combination; I haven't tried to diagnose this.)

It seems like Tusky treats the headline as a content warning and the body as the post.

Sarah Brown
@Steve Lord That works much better than Mastodon!

What pretty much everybody else has posted.
When I click the link, I get "this site can't be reached".
