I haven't read the books. I kind of lost track of what Helen and Daniel were trying to do before the car was hijacked. Following up on the missing audio tape? It feels like their narrative kind of abruptly hit a dead-end, and then there's two weeks of them confused in a car. Given the emphasis on the Pez dispenser, I'm guessing they won't be seeing the Sun again.

I'm also kind of wondering how they could have kept such a massive engineering project secret, even from Congress, especially considering its rather weird mix of retrofuturist tech; I'd have thought a more "conventional" design would have been cheaper and faster, and by cheaper and faster I mean, less implausible. Like, the scale of the excavation and construction for one of the vaults would have made Hoover Dam look easy.
