It turns out big Mercian Football games are known as bowls after the first such, The Rose Bowl. Which is named after the Rose Bowl Stadium which is kind of bowlish tbf. It looks like the superbowl trophy is a weird, phallic trophy somewhat resembling a prostate stimulator, so not at all bowlish.
