Hello BBC, (aka TVLicensing) Please ask your attending officer if there's any particular time of the day that he or she would like to be told to fuck off. Thanks in advance.
@joshie ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ They have no procedure for keeping track of people who have contacted them so the only thing that stops the letters is a TV licence. Or possibly a harassment lawsuit. Dunno if anyone has tried that.
@arroz in nearly 30 years of ignoring letters, we did actually get an inspector once. Was really nice and apologetic, actually, and seemed delighted and surprised we didn't try murder them. I'm sure plenty are arseholes, though.
What strikes me is the text circled below the snip line: "Visit undertaken by our Enforcement Division. Please ask for identification." This yank wonders if that indemnifies the glorious tvlicensing should you get attacked by an imposter. Sadly, I am sure there are cretins that will take advantage of the notices to engage in predatory behavior. Misery loves company, plenty of dickish corporate behavior in the States.
Itโs the โwe can apply to court for a search warrantโ that particularly irks me. Yes, and I could apply to court to get a search warrant for your knicker drawer. Not getting it though, am I?
@Ryan Frame the thing is, everything in that letter is a lie. They send them to all properties without a licence, but they imply that they have powers that they donโt have, and they pretty much never follow up.
If they ever actually send anyone, you just tell them to go away.
You know, we should really invest in this licensing scheme in the US. So much more opportunity for swatting with no-knock raids. Seems like a no brainer politically.

But the letters can frighten vulnerable people.
