in reply to Sarah Brown • • •Haha, it's like a right wing conspiracy honeypot...it's got, well, internationalism (obviously only good when it's the Catholic church), the French (who are obviously, well, not American and are suspect because of that Catholic thing, even though they helped create America), it's got covert anti-Catholicism (very covert since the French just tend to sort of ignore all the killings of priests that also went on and the de-Catholicizing of France into a secular nation) and it's got a heavy metal band that's, gasp, so environmentalist that Greenpeace named a ship after them.
What's hilarious and weird is how many of these Jan 6th supporters of a violent overthrow of the US government and the elites is upset about basically France's version of July 4th (Bastille day is all fireworks and military parades, though at the bar I used to work here in Montreal we also used to have a reenactment of the storming of the Bastille as part of the fun). It all kind of makes one miss the days when Protestants and Catholics were enemies.

*edited to add that I just read the article and they're mad about drag queens being Dionysian when there's the whole purging of Catholicism and de-Christianizing of France that went on as part of the French revolution?
