Tl;dr: ostracising arseholes works to curtail their influence and ultimately, their behaviour, and the fediverse by its nature serves to promote that ostracism.

@clew I think once you understand that outside the big instances, “what I see is not what everyone sees” then it becomes clear. As a small instance mod, you’re like the “readers’ letters” section of an old newspaper. Just because people send you stuff doesn’t mean you have to help the world see their thinky thoughts.

@blogdiva thank you for posting this. I was just explaining this feature to someone as example of the resilience of fediverse

that's a nice explanation. Thank you for this, and I'lluse this as an example the next time Ihave to explain what the Fediverse is.

Now, I'm sure there are people who will argue that this is what makes the Fediverse bad, since it's very hard to "go viral". And I'm sure I could hace been seen by more people if I started posting on, I don't know, instagram? But you know what? Quality over quantity.

i’m super new to this whole Fediverse but knowing that makes me even more glad to be here!

incidentally, this is why many activists (or faketivists) don't like fedi: they need to forcefully push their message and they can't. And one can have opposite opinions depending on whether they consider the message to be good or evil. I, for one, value this property of the fediverse very much.
