Been vaguely aware of the latest Fedi drama. Been trying to ignore it, but it seems to have ended up at “trans people need to stop being so sensitive to people randomly assuming they’re disgusting perverts who the rest of society needs shielding from, it was a MISTAKE you guys”.

And that just makes me sad.

in reply to Sarah Brown

Oh, and the epilogue seems to be, “in a week or so we will stop telling people you are disgusting perverts who the world needs shielding from, or at least slow down a bit, but we can’t do it right now because computer reasons. Why are you so unreasonable?”
in reply to Sarah Brown

How do they expect to get their computer troubles solved if they drive away all the queer furries? :blobcatthinking:
in reply to Sarah Brown

“We put a lot of work into the TransgenderCensor-O-Tron 5000 and it was all done in good faith and you people should be nicer to us.

We’re just gonna assume you aren’t being nicer to us, on account of how we blocked every server we found infested with you filthy perversions of nature, but you definitely should be”.

in reply to Sarah Brown

“What are we doing tomorrow, Brain?”

“Same thing we do every day, Pinky! Try to erase any evidence that trans women exist from the internet!”

in reply to cyborg

@cyborg I know that I, as a trans woman, am most active on the fediverse because other social media sites routinely use algorithmic moderation to flag out existence as “against community standards”, or some such.

I am so very tired of hearing that it’s a “bug”, every single time this happens.

Ben reshared this.

in reply to Sarah Brown

@cy
The "bug" in this case is a major conceptual flaw in the design, which basically was to create a stupid-simple CENTRALIZED blocklist aggregation tool that had no facility for documentation, review, appeal, auditing, moderation, etc. Basically "minimum viable product" [MVP] applied to a case where applying MVP methodology was guaranteed to cause harm.
in reply to FeralRobots

@FeralRobots @cyborg “welcome to social media’s American-style Puritanism. You can run, but you cannot hide”.

So very sick of this shit. I thought we’d moved past it here.

Ben reshared this.

@cy

Also, this is not a fucking fix. "Oh sorry, TWO instance admins need to agree you're terrible perverts"

in reply to CharLES ☭ H

@Charles ☭ H @cyborg same shit, different platform.

They can all fuck the fuck off with their puritanical bullshit, frankly.

in reply to Sarah Brown

@cy

Respectability politics, innit.

I'd rather have solidarity with my fellow deviants (read: sex workers, drug addicts, unhoused people). We all deserve liberation, safety and respect.

in reply to CharLES ☭ H

@Charles ☭ H @cyborg I agree entirely. Meanwhile the censors are doing the whole “this navel gazing just distracts us from the real struggle” crap which has been the excuse for transphobia, homophobia and misogyny in liberation politics since the year dot.
in reply to Alexandra Lanes

@ajlanes In these kinds of dramas, especially when the heavily-scented $2 words are rolled out, I'm often reminded of the scene in the first Star Wars where Luke turns off his tracking computer to "stay on target".
in reply to Alexandra Lanes

@ajlanes Me too, unless the one I *was* aware of from last week suddenly gained some specific trans component that wasn't initially apparent.

(Although I suppose just "being on fedi" implies a specific trans component.)

in reply to Sarah Brown

I hadn't heard about this but why am I not surprised? I wish people would just grow up.
