Just watched the โDeath of Stalinโ episode of The Spanish Princess.
Whoever wrote this clearly has OPINIONS about Margaret Beaufort.

Grr. You buy a ticket with Apple Pay on your phone and it turns out to be a paper ticket like itโs the 19th Century or something. So I have to collect it from the machine. Which wants the bank card with which I paid for it. Which is impossible since I used Apple Pay.
(Fortunately any bank card will do and the assistant put hers in, but but but)
Watching The Spanish Princess on HBO Max.
Dunno how accurate their portrayal of Margaret Beaufort is, but theyโre portraying her as exactly the sort of woman who would wield power in the court of a Tudor monarch and yet still die of old age.
And if she was anything like that, then sheโd have been beyond terrifying IRL, and an utter inspiration.

@Alexandra Lanes Can't set it as Siri's voice (yet?)
But a generative AI with my dead mum's voice? Maybe.
HomePod: "And did those feet, in ancient times, walk upon England's mountains green?"
Me: "No"

Apropos of conversation elsewhere, any other Gen X Brits remember CUB monitors?
โLetโs put an electron gun and high frequency electromagnets inside a steel box and then give it to 8 year olds because we hate kids and think electrocuting them is funny!โ
It was a different time.

Itโs my former political party, the UK Liberal Democrats, conference starting in Bournemouth today.
This likely means the usual TERF suspects are planning to engage in stupid bullshit. Usually this takes the form of trying to submit wrecking amendments to any motion aimed at improving womenโs position in society.
For some reason, the uk media insists on referring to these people as โfeministsโ.

@Rachel Greenham @Sam Easterby-Smith That sounds distressingly familiar.
And you let the problem grow, and then it turns round and bites you in the arse.

I kinda feel like the whole โmiddle aged women having a sense of humour based massively around filthy innuendo and scatologyโ is a thing. Am I wrong?
Like, Iโm driving yesterday and thereโs a bag of liquorice chews in my lap, and I offered one to @Zoe O'Connell and Iโm like, โdonโt worry, thereโs no hole in the bottomโ.
Peak fucking hilarity right there.

When I left Portugal for the summer I dared to hope I had eradicated my mealybug infestation on the balcony.
But I returned last week to find they had survived in the soil of my Lantana and had already started to spread to the neighbouring lime tree.
Not having it. If left unchecked, they will destroy EVERYTHING.
I sprayed them with a shedload of isopropyl alcohol, followed by double concentration deltamethrin, and then today, some systemic neonicotinoid spray (itโs ok, they arenโt flowering, it wonโt hurt bees).
I aso removed ALL foliage from the Lantana, and threw it in the bin.
I am daring to hope t hat will be it, but Iโm going to be utterly paranoid over the next 6 months, and at the first sign of ANYTHING, out comes the nuclear pesticide regime again.
They started this. Iโm finishing it. At least they canโt fly, so once theyโre gone, theyโre gone.
Wow! Natalie the Bird is on r/compoface for being cancelled by TEH TRANZ in the Daily Mail.
According to a barely legible black smudge, she was a โwould be MPโ but the transes cancelled her. Shocking!
Except, and this is slightly inconvenient for her, I have some considerable familiarity with olโ ms Bird here and the real reason she canโt be an MP is that she is the platonic reference Dunning Kruger effect. This is someone would would fail, by a long way, to meet the abysmally low bar set by Liz Truss and that Tory bloke who thinks womenโs blood doesnโt clot when thereโs a full moon.
r/compoface is the wrong community for her. R/StoriesAboutKevin, on the other hand, would be perfect.

Apologies for the unorthodox communication style, but Iโm trying to reach out to the TERFs in whose heads I live rent-free.
Anyway, this is a tenant query: I want to put up a big poster of Marsha Johnson throwing a brick. Am I allowed to use bluetac, or similar, on the inner surface of the bone?
Please indicate โyesโ by liking this post.

@Ted Stilton is flavoured by a member of the penicillin genus.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin derivative.
Apropos of the scary shit thatโs going on for trans people around the world right now, the concept of โbirth certificate launderingโ seems to be becoming a thing.
It goes like this: you transition and go through gender recognition somewhere hostile, like the UK. You get a new birth certificate (for now?) but you are still โon the listโ, and they know if they look hard enough; the original record is still there.
But then you naturalise or register as a citizen of another country (Ireland, for those able to via the grandparent route, for example, naturalisation through residence and assimilation in my case), and when you naturalise you give them the post gender recognition birth certificate.
That breaks the link. Your country of new citizenship registers your birth and, at as far as they are concerned, you are โlegally cisโ.
And if they start hunting us via gender recognition records, we can hopefully hide.

So had a dental implant abutment placed today, with bone regeneration. Going to take a few months before thereโs likely enough bone to attach the crown, and I suspect being a trans woman will likely affect the rate of bone growth, but we shall see.
Anyway, the procedure itself was painless. Just lots of shoving and scary noises for an hour or so. Then he sewed my gum shut over the abutment (which he placed with something akin to a ratchet screwdriver!), and sent me on my way with nuclear doses of paracetamol, ibuprofen, and an 8 day course of antibiotics.
Going back in a week to have the stitches out. Will have to get used to not smelling of anything in the meantime. Will probably get thrush, because I usually do on antibiotics, but will cross that bridge if I come to it.
I understand there are those of the opinion that trans people โdonโt help ourselvesโ with public displays of anger about the way we are treated.
So I have a question to those who believe this. If we go and sit quietly and stop making a fuss, what exactly are you going to do differently as a result? What is it youโre going to do to make this worth our while, that will improve our lot? Something concrete?
