The longer I live, the more I come to the inescapable conclusion that most "successful" captains of industry, managers, and politicians are literal psychopaths.
We are ruled by psychopaths working for psychopaths. The only way you can succeed in their hierarchy is to be a psychopath.
This is the Bad Place.

If you are those things and/or a psychopath, you don't care and carry on. If you're not, those things take a toll on your mental health until you have to stop.

Glad I gave it up though. It was killing me. Possibly literally.

in reply to Sarah Brown • •I suspect I was on the way out the door anyway. Maybe if I'd hung on for another year, being chair of FCC might have given me enough of a seat at the table to offset the issues.
But I don't think I had the right mindset then to focus on just that and make the most of it.

Jacinda Arden is probably an example of a non-sociopath politician debunking that lie.

Yes definitely.
I'd also add Mark Drakeford, most of the SNP and Scottish Greens TBF.
There are few in Labour, LibDems and England/Wales Greens. Not in senior positions sadly.
