The longer I live, the more I come to the inescapable conclusion that most "successful" captains of industry, managers, and politicians are literal psychopaths.

We are ruled by psychopaths working for psychopaths. The only way you can succeed in their hierarchy is to be a psychopath.

This is the Bad Place.

I have been saying this for years. To be a โ€˜seniorโ€™ manager or politician requires a complete lack of empathy, massive ego, ruthlessness and a complete lack of self awareness. Psychopaths by any other name!

I think part of the selection bias is that, at least in politics, you get accused of being an arsehole, in it for yourself, power-hungry, generally a bad person, etc.

If you are those things and/or a psychopath, you don't care and carry on. If you're not, those things take a toll on your mental health until you have to stop.
