I'm Sarah. I'm a Brit who fled to Portugal on account of Brexit, increasing intolerance and the British weather. I like climbing (although I can't do much any more for health reasons) and sailing. This is a Friendica account. Friendica is kinda like Facebook as Mastodon is kinda like Twitter, except they can talk to each other.

I feel like I have a “brand”, and that brand is “slightly psychotic middle aged tomboy trans lesbian”.

And brands must be maintained.

So when it’s time to descale the kettle, and other people use vinegar …

My hand, holding a bottle of hydrochloric acid

I like that brand, and the brand name of the the product. "Tintin has" ...seriously strong chemical cleaning products.

I use citric acid, that smells less bad than vinegar and is non-toxic.

For some boiler faucet I regularly took a porcellain mug with water, boiled it in the microwave, added citric acid until it didn't dissolve anymore, and dropped the unscrewed faucet into it. Took next to no time.
Same with electric kettles. Just use enough citric acid and HEAT...

@Wilfried Klaebe Put water in kettle. Pour in hydrochloric. Add no heat. Pour out hydrochloric. Kettle is descaled. No residual taste. Entire process: 15 seconds.

I prefer having citric granulate around to liquid hydrochloric.

But well, each to their own taste (pun not intended).
