@JamesB I don't know about that one. I would never sign this kind of hiring document in either version. I would demand the whole clause to be removed altogether or walk away from the job. Working in my free time on free software that isn't malware, I simply can't take this risk.
I find it fascinating that companies should be entitled to the fruit of someone's work even during the times when they don't pay them. Feels more like owning someone than hireing someone.

Apple shortly introduces a much-needed feature for iMessage for users with a high degree of risk of having their communications intercepted or other parties impersonated: Contact Key Verification. At its heart, it's a way to shift the end-to-end trust in iMessages from Apple’s central servers to each party’s copy of Messages on their devices. #cambridge Guided busway claims more drivers who don’t notice signs. This car has lost one, maybe two tyres to the car trap. My question is, how are they rescued? Do ordinary rescue companies have vehicles that can get onto the guideway? Does the county council?
Maybe a dump of wrecked cars along the side of the track would put drivers off from being such idiots? How many warning signs etc did they have to ignore - ‘cant mean me, im intelligent even for Cambridge’ - to get there?

@Normal for '23 😷🇪🇺🍸 They’re there to stop cars going further on the busway, presumably so that they can be retrieved more easily than half way down a guided section. (This section is an anomaly because it’s not guided except at the entrances; the proper guided sections are narrow trenches.)
Wouldn’t recommend guided bus as a transport solution even if reusing closed railway alignments for transport is a good idea.

ActivityPub is a server API not app API. Non-Mastodon servers need to support Mastodon API so they can communicate with Mastodon apps. Mona is compatible with servers that support Mastodon API. In this case, the Friendica server supports Mastodon API, but it appears that they got something wrong.
Say if the Mastodon API requires that server provide a notification title and identifier to the app when delivering a notification, but Friendica provides nothing, then the app can’t display notification.

The Motorola MC68000 has a BEAST of a MOV instruction. Official assembler mnemonic: MOVE. Refreshingly clear!
You could move to and from registers and/or memory. 8-, 16-, 32- data sizes. Post increment, predecrement. Including memory-to-memory moves (*Ferris Bueller soundtrack voice*: Oh Yeah).
`*d++ = *s++` is a single instruction in 68000.
Officially destination on the right: MOVE A7,D0 copies the A7 register to D0
my mind was blown when I moved from 6502 asm to the 68000. So many registers! Move straight from one memory location to another! So many instructions! Although it took me a while to get the hang of not assuming code just lived at an absolute memory address 🙂

Day 3 of #MOVember and the grandad of many popular modern CPUs: Intel 8080.
Such a cute ISA, more regular than everything after. 7 (8-bit) registers, A B C D E H L, and you can MOV between any of them:
MOV x, y
A "pseudo register" M can be used to move data to and from the external memory location pointed to by the HL pair. MOV M, M was banned so the HALT instruction could be encoded.
Actually LDAX and STAX can also be used to move A to (BC) and (DE), but that's really MOV in disguise.
Just as the 8086 inherited from the 8080, the 68000 inherited from the PDP-11.
The PDP-11 has a mediocre 8 registers, but makes excellent use of 12 addressing modes. The modes were orthogonal in two senses: any register; any instruction.
In truth there are 8 addressing modes. The PC is one of the registers. An additional 4 modes (PC-relative) are in fact 4 of the regular modes, but using register 7 (PC) as the base.
of all the different processor instruction sets I’ve forgotten, the Z80 was the easiest to pick up and then forget. And the 68000 was the one I wished I’d spent more time using.
The 8051 is probably the one most seared in my memory as I had to write code for it before the assembler arrived (i n the post fro the US I think).

My understanding of it is that many in the US (which seems to be worst affected) went into 2008 thinking money was somehow a proxy for your "score at life" but came out of it thinking wealth was some kind of puzzle box to be cracked.

This is a hot take for fedi, but I honestly think an iPhone is the best off the shelf defense against this kind of health data shit.
The Health app is one of the most comprehensive of its kind, and is one single place to defend as opposed to many apps for different functions, with different privacy policies.
You get prompted a single time whether you want to share your health data with Apple. Decline it and your data stays on-device. I’ve never been nagged again after the single request to upload data.
There are some ways that Apple is shit with privacy, but there are other ways they very much aren’t.
@maddiefuzz Does that defend against the police trying to access a mobile phone though? In the UK, if the police want your phone, you are legally obligated to hand it over – including the password. It’s a legit crime to not give the cops your electronic devices.
@maddiefuzz Even though we have a right to not self-incriminate, this does not apply to electronic devices, so it’s like… If a cop has a warrant, they can take all your electronic devices for as long as they want, clone the hard drive, whatever. If you don’t hand that over, then it’s two years in prison even if you actually didn’t commit a crime.

Pen fans! I have a Platinum Plaisir with some pink ink which keeps going scratchy on me even though the converter still has plenty of ink in it. I’ve tried cleaning everything out with water and letting it dry and it’s a little bit better but it still seems to dry out in use. Any suggestions?
