Day 2 in Oxford for medical trial fun and games. Today was the infusion, 50% chance of ketamine vs placebo. After doing a variety of questionnaires and having blood and urine samples taken it was time to be infused. It was fairly relaxing. Maybe a bit boring. I idly let my mind wander. I think I either didn’t get ketamine or I did and it had nearly no effect on me. I felt maybe slightly lightheaded at one point, and now feel a bit weird, but nothing especially noteworthy.
After that there were more questionnaires and computer tasks. Rather cruelly one of these asked me to remember things from another task, which they hadn’t warned me about. Testing memory when you’ve not been asked to remember stuff is a valuable thing to do.
Tomorrow afternoon is an MRI session where I remember various things while in the machine and they look at what bits of my head light up.

When the family lived in Thorpe Bay, Essex we were part of the bi-annual lift in / lift out where they would get about 50 yachts from their summer moorings in to the boat yard. Basically two enormous cranes, a flat bed and a high tide were needed. The light/smaller boats were done earliest/latest and the big ones as close to high tide as possible. You would take the boat in to the jetty, slings would go under the hull, and it would be lifted out of the water, across the road which ran along the prom, and on to the truck. It would get driven to the boat yard where it was unloaded by another crane and deposited for the winter. Spring was the reverse. We were doing a boat every 15 minutes over two days / two tides!
Our boat at the time was about the same size as yours but was a dual keeler as it would dry out and stand on the sand. It was one of the largest boats the handled. Masts were pre dropped. That would be done the weekends before. Again it was done on mass. You would drop a bunch of masts in a day!
@Cyberspice A lot of those who can take the ground in the western Algarve dry out on the Alvor sandbank and do their maintenance that way. It’s a lot cheaper than paying Lagos boatyard.
@William Heber Percy iPhones do long exposures by stacking. They can tolerate a small amount of movement because each exposure is aligned automatically with its neighbours.

Curious about just how good the quad bayer "48 megapixel" pro raw camera in the iPhone 16 Pro is, I put it head to head against my 26 megapixel Fuji XE4 with a 16mm lens (stopped down to f/5.6) to closely match field of view. I photographed the same scene on both. Here are 100% crops from both, scaled to the same size.
Notably, the phone, despite having more pixels, simply does not capture the amount of fine detail that the Fuji captures with only half as many pixels.
As good as camera phones have got, you simply cannot compete against large photosensors fed by a nice expensive quality piece of glass.

@kittylyst I am not a lawyer, but I'd assume that the defining feature of a container of alcohol is that it's got alcohol in it. If it was the printing on the label then it would be legal to drink your gin so long as you put it in a milk bottle or whatever first.

Just had a purge of most of the Lib Dem groups I was still a member of. I don’t find I have the stomach for the moral cowardice and rank hypocrisy any more.
In particular, the party is unwilling to do anything about its growing transphobia problem because it would be financially inconvenient for them, so they rely on cherry picked interpretations of a contentious and unsettled part of UK equalities law to give them plausible deniability.
The reality is that the people in a position to do something about the anti trans genocidal maniacs amongst their ranks are never going to suffer any personal issues from tolerating them, and lack the will and the moral courage to do what needs to be done.
It’s easier not to.
This is not unique to them. The far right is on the rise across the western democracies because weak and hypocritical cowards have decided that it’s too hard to do anything about it, and the less they do, the more they get entrenched and the harder it gets.
